Homestead Exemption
How to Apply for a Homestead Exemption in Panola County
Texas homeowners who live in their home as a primary residence can apply for a homestead exemption to reduce the taxable value of their property.
A homestead exemption lowers the value the appraisal district uses to calculate your tax bill. To qualify, the home must be your main residence. You apply once through the Panola County Appraisal District — not the state.
When you apply, you must include a copy of your Texas driver's license or state ID showing the property address. The application goes to PCAD at 1736 Ball Park Dr., Carthage, TX 75633. Forms are available on the PCAD website. State law sets the filing window, so check the site or call 903-693-2891 for the current deadline. Once approved, the exemption renews automatically as long as you still live there.
