Who Appraises Your Property in Panola County

The Panola County Appraisal District sets the value of your property. A separate Tax Assessor-Collector office then bills and collects what you owe.

Two different offices handle your property taxes here. The Panola County Appraisal District (PCAD) decides what your land and home are worth. A Tax Assessor-Collector then uses that value to figure out your tax bill. Keeping them straight matters because complaints about value go to PCAD, and payment questions go to the tax office.

PCAD is at 1736 Ball Park Dr. in Carthage. The tax office is at 110 S. Sycamore St., Room 211, also in Carthage. The county has 13 taxing units, including several school districts, so your total bill adds up from multiple rates. If you live in your home as your main residence, you can apply for a homestead exemption through PCAD to lower your taxable value. Check the PCAD website or the Texas Comptroller's county directory for current forms and deadlines.
