Homestead Exemption
How to Get a Homestead Exemption in Nacogdoches County
If you own and live in your home, you can apply for a homestead exemption to lower your property tax bill.
Texas law requires school districts to give homeowners a $140,000 exemption on their main home. Other local taxing units can add their own exemption on top of that. To qualify, you must own the home and live in it as your main residence.
You file for the exemption with the Nacogdoches County Appraisal District — not the tax office. The general filing deadline is April 30 of the tax year, though late filings are sometimes accepted. Download Form 50-114 from the Texas Comptroller's website. Once approved, you don't need to reapply every year unless your situation changes.
