Nacogdoches Lake Is a Solid Bass Fishery Near Town

This 2,212-acre city reservoir off FM 225 has a strong largemouth bass population and free public boat ramp access.

Nacogdoches Lake sits on Loco Bayou, about 10 miles west of Nacogdoches off FM 225. It was impounded in 1976 and covers 2,212 acres with a maximum depth of 40 feet. Largemouth bass are the main draw. TPWD reports the lake has produced bass over 13 pounds. A special 16-inch maximum length limit applies to bass, which helps protect trophy-sized fish.

Crappie, bluegill, and redear sunfish are also plentiful, making it a good spot for beginners. Fishing is best in fall, winter, and spring. The City of Nacogdoches operates the lake and provides two public parks with boat ramps. No fee is charged for access. Check the TPWD lake page for current regulations before you go.
