Homestead Exemption
Homestead Exemption Cuts Your School Tax Bill
Texas law gives homeowners a $140,000 exemption from the school district portion of their property tax if the home is their primary residence.
If you own and live in your home in Ector County, you likely qualify for a homestead exemption. The state requires school districts to exempt $140,000 of your home's value from taxation. That can mean a meaningful reduction in your tax bill.
You apply through the Ector County Appraisal District using Form 50-114. The general deadline is before May 1. You can only claim a homestead exemption on one property — the one you actually live in. Check the ECAD website or call 432-332-6834 to confirm current deadlines.
