White-Tailed Deer and Turkey Hunting in McLennan County

McLennan County falls in TPWD's North Zone for deer and has both fall and spring turkey seasons, with antler restrictions in place.

Under North Zone rules, you may take up to 5 deer per season, but no more than 2 bucks. Antler restrictions apply: a legal buck must have at least one unbranched antler, or an inside spread of 13 inches or more. Only one of your two legal bucks may exceed 13 inches inside spread.

For turkey, McLennan County straddles I-35, so which zone rules apply depends on where you are hunting. West of I-35 the spring bag limit is 4 turkeys (gobblers or bearded hens); east of I-35 it drops to 1 gobbler. Check current bag limits each season. Turkey reporting is required by TPWD — harvest must be reported through the mobile app or online portal. Always confirm current seasons and limits at the TPWD Outdoor Annual before heading out.
