Hunting and fishing licenses in Bexar County

Anyone hunting or fishing in Texas outside a state park boundary needs a valid Texas license from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

Texas requires a hunting or fishing license for most outdoor activities on public and private land. You can buy a license online at tpwd.texas.gov, by phone, or from one of approximately 1,700 licensed retail agents across the state. In Bexar County, licenses are also available at the Bexar County Southside Annex, 3505 Pleasanton Rd., San Antonio.

One important exception: no fishing license is required for anyone fishing inside the boundary of a Texas State Park. So if you are fishing at Government Canyon State Natural Area or another park, your park day-use fee covers you. On private land or public waters outside a state park, you do need a license.

Hunting and fishing season dates, bag limits, and license fees change annually. Do not rely on last year's rules. Always check the current Texas Outdoor Annual at tpwd.texas.gov before heading out. Violations can result in fines and loss of privileges.
