Hunting and fishing licenses for Brazos County

Anyone hunting or fishing in public waters in Brazos County needs a current Texas license from TPWD, and Brazos County has specific deer bag and antler restrictions.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) requires a hunting or freshwater fishing license for anyone taking fish, game, or other wildlife from public waters or on public lands. Residents under 17 are exempt from the freshwater fishing license requirement. Youth under 17 hunting any game must still obtain a Youth Hunting License ($7). Landowners are not generally exempt from hunting license requirements on their own land — a license is still required except for narrow species-specific exemptions (feral hogs on private property, depredating fur-bearers, coyotes attacking livestock). Licenses can be purchased online at tpwd.texas.gov or at many local retailers.

For Brazos County deer hunters, the general bag limit is four deer with a maximum of two bucks. County-specific antler rules apply: only one of the two bucks may have an inside spread of 13 inches or greater. Check the TPWD Outdoor Annual for the current year's rules, as seasons and limits can change. The TPWD page for Brazos County lists applicable regulations for all species.

Most hunting in Brazos County occurs on private land. If you are new to the area, note that public hunting lands in the immediate county are limited — check TPWD's public hunting land map for the closest options.
