What You Can Hunt in Wheeler County and When

Wheeler County sits in the Texas Panhandle and offers white-tailed deer, mule deer, turkey, pheasant, quail, dove, waterfowl, and sandhill crane hunting under TPWD regulations.

Wheeler County is in the North Zone for white-tailed deer. The bag limit is 5 deer total, with no more than 1 buck, across all seasons combined. Mule deer are also present and have a separate season in the Panhandle zone, with a 1-buck limit. Wild turkey, pheasant, quail, and dove seasons are all open here as well.

Sandhill crane hunting is allowed in Zone A, which covers this part of the Panhandle. Most migratory bird hunting requires a federal duck stamp, a Texas Migratory Game Bird Endorsement, and HIP certification. Seasons and bag limits change year to year. Always verify the current year's rules on the TPWD Outdoor Annual before you go.
