Who Handles Property Taxes in Wheeler County

Two separate offices handle property taxes in Wheeler County — one sets your value, and one collects the bill.

The Wheeler Central Appraisal District sets the taxable value of your home or land. It is at 402 S. Main St. in Wheeler. The tax assessor-collector then sends the tax bill and collects what you owe. These are two different offices, which confuses many new property owners.

If you think your property value is too high, you file a protest with the appraisal district — not the tax office. Deadlines and exemption forms, including the homestead exemption, are handled through the appraisal district. Check the current deadlines directly with the district before you file.
