Hunting Seasons in Maverick County Follow South Zone Rules

Maverick County is in the South Zone for deer and dove, which sets different season dates and bag limits than Central or North Texas.

For the 2025-26 season, South Zone white-tailed deer general season runs November 1, 2025 through January 18, 2026. The bag limit is 5 deer, with no more than 3 bucks. Dove season in the South Zone opens September 14, with a daily bag limit of 15 doves in the aggregate. Quail season runs statewide November 1 through February 28, with a daily limit of 15. Javelina may be taken year-round with a limit of 2 per license year.

Most migratory bird hunting requires a Federal Duck Stamp and HIP certification in addition to a Texas hunting license. Turkey harvest must be reported through the TPWD app or online. Season dates and limits can change each year — always check the current TPWD Outdoor Annual before hunting.
