Hurricane Evacuation

Know your hurricane evacuation route before storm season in Hardin County

Hardin County is inland, but big storms can still trigger evacuation orders. Learn your route before hurricane season — not when a storm is coming.

Hardin County is not on the coast. But when a big hurricane aims at the upper Gulf Coast, orders to leave can reach counties well inland. When that happens, roads fill up fast. Traffic on evacuation routes can back up for hours.

TxDOT has official maps showing where to go. There is a dedicated map for the Beaumont and Southeast Texas area. During a large evacuation, some highways switch to contraflow — all lanes point away from the coast. Go to TxDOT's hurricane preparation page before each season. Download the Beaumont-area route map and save it. Do not wait for a storm to figure out your route.
