Hurricane Evacuation
Fort Bend County is a pass-through route during coastal hurricane evacuations
Fort Bend County is not a coastal evacuation zone, but it carries heavy evacuation traffic from the coast during major storms.
Fort Bend County is not on the coast, so it has no storm surge risk. But during a major hurricane, officials may still order some parts of the county to evacuate because of flooding. The county also carries heavy traffic from coastal areas heading inland.
Main evacuation routes through Fort Bend include State Highway 6, US Highway 59, Highway 99, US Highway 90A, and Highway 36. TxDOT may reverse lanes on some highways to move more cars away from the coast faster.
If you need help evacuating, register with STEAR (State Texas Emergency Assistance Registry) by calling 2-1-1. Have a plan with more than one route. Roads can fill up fast.
