Your Texas ID must match your property address to get a homestead exemption in Bexar County

When applying for a homestead exemption in Bexar County, your Texas driver's license or state ID address must match the address of the property you are claiming.

One of the most common reasons homestead exemption applications are delayed or denied in Bexar County is a mismatch between the applicant's ID address and the property address. Bexar Central Appraisal District requires that your Texas driver's license or state-issued ID show the same address as the property for which you are claiming the exemption.

If you recently moved, update your driver's license address with the Texas Department of Public Safety before applying for your exemption. You can update your address online at dps.texas.gov/section/driver-license/online-services or in person at a DPS driver license office. There are multiple DPS locations in the San Antonio area.

If you use a P.O. Box or have other address complications, contact BCAD directly at 210-242-2432 or visit bcad.org. In limited circumstances—such as for safety reasons—BCAD may accept an alternative form of documentation, but this is handled case by case. Do not delay getting your exemption filed; the standard deadline is April 30.
