Growth & Change
Kaufman County is one of the fastest-growing counties in the U.S.
Kaufman County added more than 50,000 residents between 2020 and 2024 — a growth rate that made it the fastest-growing county in Texas and second-fastest in the country.
Kaufman County was once a rural farming county. It started becoming more urban in the 1960s as Dallas expanded. But growth accelerated sharply in the 2020s. Between 2020 and 2024, the county added more than 50,000 residents — an increase of roughly one-third in just four years. Census estimates ranked Kaufman as the fastest-growing county in Texas and second-fastest in the country for the period ending July 2024.
Much of the growth is in and around Forney and Crandall, just east of Dallas. Relatively lower home prices compared to Dallas and Collin counties drew buyers out along the I-20 and US-175 corridors. This growth is bringing rapid infrastructure changes — new subdivisions, expanding ETJs, proposed annexations, and new special districts. If you are moving here, the county you see today may look different in just a few years.
