The appraisal district sets your home's value; the tax assessor-collector sends the bill and takes payment.
In Kaufman County, two separate offices deal with property tax. The Kaufman Central Appraisal District (KCAD) decides what your property is worth each year. A separate Tax Assessor-Collector office calculates your actual bill and collects the money. They are not the same office.
If you think your value is too high, you protest at KCAD — not at the tax office. The appraisal district is at 3950 S. Houston St. in Kaufman. The tax office is at 100 N. Washington St. in Kaufman.
