Historic Courthouse
Kendall County's 1870 courthouse is one of Texas's oldest still in use
The limestone courthouse built in Boerne in 1870 is still standing and has served the county for more than 150 years.
Kendall County built its limestone courthouse in 1870. Philip Zoeller designed the building, and J. F. Stendebach served as the general contractor.
The 1870 courthouse is the second-oldest courthouse in Texas still in use. That makes it a rare piece of Texas history right in the middle of Boerne.
The old courthouse stands directly across the street from the current courthouse, which was built in 1998. You can see both buildings near the center of town.
The 1870 building is a reminder of the county's German Hill Country roots and how quickly the area grew after the Civil War. If you visit Boerne, both courthouses are easy to find on foot.
