Lake Livingston: Fishing and Boating on Trinity County's Eastern Edge

Lake Livingston is an 83,000-acre reservoir on the Trinity River. It borders Trinity County and is known for catfish and white bass fishing.

Lake Livingston Dam was completed in 1969 and is owned and operated by the Trinity River Authority. The City of Houston has a long-term water supply contract with TRA but does not co-own or co-operate the lake. The reservoir covers parts of Trinity, Polk, San Jacinto, and Walker counties. Blue catfish and white bass are the top catches. Largemouth bass, striped bass, and crappie are also in the lake. You find them most often near areas with underwater structure.

The Trinity River Authority runs public boat ramps around the lake. Free ramps are at Blanchard, Patrick's Ferry, Whiterock, and Point Blank. Anyone 17 or older needs a standard Texas fishing license. Rules can change each season. Check current TPWD regulations before you go. Visit the TPWD lake page for the latest survey data and access points.
