Property Tax
Property Tax: Two Offices, One County
In Trinity County, the appraisal district sets your property value. The county tax assessor-collector does not collect property taxes here.
Two offices handle property taxes in Trinity County. The Trinity County Appraisal District (TCAD) decides what your property is worth for tax purposes. The county tax assessor-collector is a separate office. But the state Comptroller says that office does not collect property taxes here. Contact TCAD directly about your tax bill and payment.
To claim a homestead exemption, file with the appraisal district — not the tax office. Texas law gives homeowners a $140,000 exemption on a primary home for school district taxes. The county and other local taxing units may offer extra exemptions on top of that. The general deadline to file is before May 1 of the tax year. Check with TCAD before you file, since deadlines and amounts can change.
