Lake Tawakoni State Park is a short drive from Kaufman County

Lake Tawakoni State Park sits about 50 miles east of Dallas, offering camping, fishing, hiking, and boating on a nearly 38,000-acre reservoir.

Lake Tawakoni State Park covers 376 acres along more than five miles of shoreline on the 37,879-acre reservoir. The park is located at 10822 FM 2475 in Wills Point, just east of Kaufman County. It offers campsite with water and electricity, full-hookup sites, and a primitive group campsite. The park often fills up on weekends — make a reservation before you go.

Fishing is available by boat or from shore. No fishing license is needed to fish from shore inside a state park. The park also has nearly five miles of hiking and mountain biking trails, kayak rentals, and a four-lane boat ramp. Day use is $5 per adult; kids 12 and under are free.
