Public Hunting Permit

You need a permit to hunt on Corps of Engineers land near Lake Whitney

About 18,000 acres of public hunting land around Lake Whitney in Bosque and Hill counties require a permit through recreation.gov.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manages hunting land around Lake Whitney. About 18,000 acres are open to the public. This land spans parts of both Bosque County and Hill County. You cannot just walk in and hunt. You need a permit first. Get it through recreation.gov before you go.

You also need a Texas hunting license. That is separate from the Corps permit. You need both. Check the Corps' Whitney Lake website before each season. Permit availability, season dates, and rules can change from year to year. Do not assume last year's rules still apply.
