Lockhart's 1894 courthouse and downtown are on the National Register
The Caldwell County Courthouse in Lockhart was built in 1894 and, along with several blocks of downtown, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
The Caldwell County Courthouse in Lockhart was built in 1894. It is three stories tall, with a mansard roof and a tall central tower with additional corner towers. The courthouse sits at the heart of downtown Lockhart.
In 1978, the courthouse and the surrounding downtown blocks were added to the National Register of Historic Places. The Texas Historical Commission has recorded the courthouse as a strong example of late 19th-century Texas public building design. Lockhart also calls itself the Barbecue Capital of Texas. Its long-established BBQ restaurants draw visitors from around the state.
