Lower Neches WMA Offers Public Hunting and Birding Near Orange
The Lower Neches Wildlife Management Area covers nearly 8,000 acres near Bridge City and is open to public hunting, fishing, and wildlife viewing with a TPWD permit.
The Lower Neches WMA has 7,998 acres along Sabine Lake, about eight miles southwest of Orange near Bridge City. It is managed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD). The area is well known for waterfowl hunting and birding because it sits along major migration routes.
To use the WMA, visitors 17 and older must carry either an Annual Public Hunting permit or a Limited Public Use permit — both issued by TPWD. The WMA is closed to most activities from November 1 through January 31 except for waterfowl hunting. There are no restrooms, so bring your own water. Check the TPWD website for current seasons and permit requirements before you go.
