Hot Summers and Unpredictable Rain Define the Local Climate

McLennan County averages about 34 inches of rain per year but sees high heat in summer and occasional hard freezes in winter.

Average July high temperatures reach about 96 degrees Fahrenheit. Average January low temperatures drop to about 36 degrees. The growing season lasts 253 days. Annual rainfall ranges from about 33 to 35 inches, but rain can come in heavy bursts that cause flash flooding.

Winter storms can occur, as central Texas is vulnerable to ice events. Hail is a regular hazard in spring. The area does not face hurricane-level wind risk, but tropical moisture can produce heavy rain. If you are buying a home here, check that your homeowner's policy covers hail and wind damage.
