MUD / Water District

Your Home May Be Inside a Water District

Many Dallas County neighborhoods — especially newer suburbs — sit inside a Municipal Utility District that charges its own fees and taxes.

A Municipal Utility District (MUD) is a local government entity that builds and runs water, sewer, and drainage systems. If your home is in a MUD, you pay a separate MUD property tax rate on top of city and school taxes. Sellers are required to notify buyers before closing.

To find out if you are in a MUD or other water district, use the TCEQ Water Districts Map at tceq.texas.gov. The map shows district boundaries and board contact information across Dallas County.
