The Navasota River Floods — Know Your Property's Risk
The Navasota River runs through Grimes County and can rise quickly during heavy rain, putting roads and low-lying properties at risk.
The Navasota River can rise several feet in just a few days. Heavy rain is all it takes. In May 2024, several county roads flooded. That kind of flooding is normal here. The river drains a large area and rises fast.
Buying or building near the river? Check your flood risk first. Go to the FEMA Flood Map Service Center and search your address. It will tell you if your land is in a flood zone. Land in the 100-year floodplain may need flood insurance. That is often required if you have a federally backed mortgage.
Inside Navasota city limits, contact Navasota's floodplain office with questions. On unincorporated county land, call Grimes County emergency management at 936-873-4404.
