Rivers

Two major rivers border Smith County

The Neches River and the Sabine River border Smith County and feed the county's lakes and wetlands.

The Neches River borders the western side of Smith County and feeds Lake Palestine. The Sabine River runs along the northern boundary of the county. Both rivers support fishing and wildlife in the Piney Woods.

Rivers also mean flood risk. Land near either river or their smaller creek systems can fall inside a FEMA flood zone. That can raise your insurance costs and limit what you can build. Check the FEMA Flood Map Service Center before you buy land near either river.
