Flood Insurance
Flood Insurance Is Separate from Your Homeowner's Policy
Standard homeowner's insurance does not cover flood damage. Dallas County participates in the National Flood Insurance Program.
Homeowner's insurance does not pay for flood damage. You need a separate policy through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) or a private flood insurer. If your home is in a high-risk flood zone and you have a federally backed mortgage, your lender will require it.
Dallas County participates in the NFIP. That means county residents can buy federally backed flood coverage. Even if your home is not in a mapped flood zone, you can still buy a policy. Dallas County's Trinity River and its creeks have flooded neighborhoods not shown on older maps.
