Mineral Rights
Oil and gas production has a long history in Goliad County
Goliad County has active oil and gas production, so if you buy land here, mineral rights are worth asking about.
Goliad County has produced oil since at least 1929. The Texas State Historical Association documented over 82 million cumulative barrels of oil extracted from county lands through 2004. Active wells and leases remain in the county today.
When buying rural land, ask whether mineral rights are included. In Texas, mineral rights can be split from surface rights. The previous owner may have already sold the minerals. If someone else owns the minerals under your land, they have the legal right to access your surface for drilling operations. The Railroad Commission of Texas (District 2, San Antonio office) regulates all oil and gas activity in Goliad County. You can look up wells and leases on the RRC's public website.
