Historic Courthouse
The Old Red Courthouse Is a Dallas Landmark from 1892
The 1892 Dallas County Courthouse — known as Old Red — was restored and rededicated as a history museum in 2007.
The Dallas County Courthouse was built in 1892. Over the decades it fell apart, and the original clock tower was taken down in the early 1900s. Dallas County began a major restoration using state preservation funds in the early 2000s.
The building was rededicated on May 15, 2007. It now serves as the Old Red Museum of Dallas County History and Culture. The restoration brought back the clock tower and fixed the original courtrooms and the cast-iron staircase. The Texas Historical Commission recognizes it as a Texas Historic Courthouse. It is a well-known landmark in downtown Dallas and worth a visit if you want to learn more about the county's past.
