Burn Ban

Outdoor Burning Rules in Dallas County Can Change Fast

Dallas County can issue a burn ban when conditions are dry, and violations carry penalties under Texas law.

The Dallas County Judge or Commissioners Court can issue a countywide burn ban when drought conditions exist. A burn ban prohibits outdoor burning in unincorporated areas. Bans can be issued quickly and lifted when conditions improve.

Even without a ban, burning is still regulated. Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) rules govern what you can burn and when. Cities in Dallas County have their own rules that may be stricter. Check current ban status with the county or at tceq.texas.gov before you burn.
