Who Sets Your Property Value in Pecos County
Two separate offices handle property taxes in Pecos County — one sets your value, one collects the bill.
The Pecos County Appraisal District sets the value of your property. It is located in Fort Stockton. This is the office you contact if you think your value is too high. You can also apply for a homestead exemption here. A homestead exemption lowers the taxable value of your home, which reduces what you owe.
A separate office — the Tax Assessor-Collector — sends your bill and collects what you owe. These are two different offices. Many people confuse them. If you want to protest your value, go to the appraisal district. If you need to pay your bill, go to the tax office. Check the Texas Comptroller's county directory for current contact details, since phone numbers and staff change.
