Property Tax
Who Appraises and Who Collects Your Property Taxes
In Jack County, two separate offices handle your property taxes: the appraisal district sets your value, and the tax assessor-collector sends the bill.
The Jack County Appraisal District (JCAD) determines what your property is worth for tax purposes. It also handles exemptions like the homestead exemption. JCAD is at 210 N. Church St. in Jacksboro.
A separate office, the Tax Assessor-Collector, calculates and collects the taxes based on JCAD's values. There are 12 taxing units in the county, including the county itself, six school districts, two cities, two water districts, and a hospital district. If you think your value is wrong, you can file a protest with JCAD. Check the appraisal district website for current deadlines and exemption forms.
