Appraisal Protest
You have the right to protest your Fort Bend County property appraisal
If you think FBCAD valued your home too high, you can file a protest and make your case to an independent review board.
Each spring, Fort Bend Central Appraisal District (FBCAD) sends property owners a Notice of Appraised Value. If you believe the value is wrong, you can file a protest. The deadline is May 15 or 30 days from the date FBCAD mails your notice, whichever is later — but verify the current deadline at fbcad.org.
You present your evidence to an Appraisal Review Board (ARB), which is separate from FBCAD. Evidence like recent sales of similar homes, photos of damage, or a recent appraisal can support your case.
Protesting is free and does not require a lawyer. Many Fort Bend homeowners protest each year. If you are unhappy with the ARB decision, you can appeal further. Check fbcad.org for the current process and online filing options.
