Tax Protest
You Can Protest Your Appraisal Value
If you think the appraisal district has overvalued your property, you have the right to formally protest and seek a lower value.
Each spring, the Lubbock Central Appraisal District mails a notice of appraised value. If you disagree with the number, you can file a protest. The deadline is typically May 15 or 30 days after the appraisal district mails your notice, whichever is later — but confirm the current deadline each year.
You first try to settle informally with a CAD staffer. If that fails, your case goes to the Appraisal Review Board (ARB), an independent panel that hears both sides. Bring evidence: recent sales of similar homes or a professional appraisal. The CAD website has the protest form and instructions.
