Vehicle Registration

No Annual Safety Inspection Required to Register Your Car

As of January 1, 2025, McLennan County drivers no longer need a safety inspection to renew vehicle registration, but a small replacement fee applies.

Texas House Bill 3297 ended the annual vehicle safety inspection requirement for most counties starting January 2025. McLennan County is not one of the 17 counties that still require emissions testing. So if you register here, there is no inspection step.

You will still pay a $7.50 inspection program replacement fee when you register. The McLennan County Tax Office handles registration renewals, title transfers, and disabled parking placards. The office is at 215 N 5th Street in Waco. You can also renew online through TxDMV.
