The Texas Railroad Commission maintains records on every permitted oil and gas well in Dallas County, accessible online.

Dallas County is not a major active oil patch, but historic and inactive wells may exist on or near property you are buying. The Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) keeps records on all permitted wells, including old plugging reports and production history.

You can search well records and view a public GIS map at rrc.texas.gov. If you are buying rural land, check whether any wells are on or near the property and confirm they were properly plugged. Unplugged old wells can be a liability.
