The San Gabriel River Is the Only River in Williamson County

The San Gabriel River runs through the center of Williamson County and is the county's only river, flowing through Georgetown and feeding Lake Georgetown.

The San Gabriel River is the sole river that runs through Williamson County. It passes through Georgetown and the North Fork is dammed to form Lake Georgetown. Early settlers came to this area in part because of the river's clear water and the fertile land along its banks.

The river can rise quickly during heavy rains. The Brushy Creek watershed, a major tributary system, also contributes to flood risk in the eastern and central parts of the county. If your property is near either waterway, check the FEMA flood maps at msc.fema.gov.
