Septic Systems Outside City Limits Require a County Permit
If your rural Grayson County home is not on a city sewer system, you need a permit before you install or replace a septic system.
Texas calls these on-site sewage facilities, or OSSFs. The permit is issued by the local permitting authority, which is usually the county. You need a licensed site evaluator to inspect the land before you apply. The permitting authority must approve or deny your application within 30 days.
Do not install a septic system without a permit — it can be a legal problem when you sell the property. Use the TCEQ county lookup tool to find out exactly who issues permits in your part of Grayson County. Requirements vary depending on lot size, soil type, and how close you are to a water source.
