Septic / OSSF

You need a permit before installing a septic system in Kaufman County

Kaufman County requires a permit for any new septic system, and the installer must hold a TCEQ license.

If your property is not on city water and sewer, you will need a septic system. The official term is an on-site sewage facility (OSSF). You must get a permit before any septic system is installed or used. The person who does the work must be licensed by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). This rule covers new systems, repairs, and sprinkler parts connected to the system.

The county's Development Services department handles OSSF permits. The office is at 101 N. Houston Street in Kaufman. Call 469-376-4127 or visit kaufmancounty.net for forms and a list of licensed contractors. Building without a permit can cause legal trouble and make it harder to sell your property later.
