Septic / OSSF
Rural homes outside city limits usually need a septic permit
Most rural properties in Henderson County rely on a septic system, and a permit is required before installing or replacing one.
Texas calls a septic system an On-Site Sewage Facility, or OSSF. If your property sits outside a city sewer system, you almost certainly need one. You must get a permit before you build, replace, or change a system.
Contact Henderson County directly to find out who handles OSSF permits there. If the county does not run its own program, the state agency TCEQ reviews applications. An approved inspector must sign off on the design and the installation. Skipping the permit can hold up a real estate closing or cause problems when you try to sell.
