Sherman Has a Floodplain Management Program for City Properties

The City of Sherman manages local floodplain information and works with FEMA flood maps to help property owners understand their flood risk.

Sherman's Engineering Department keeps flood maps on file and can answer questions about floodplain rules within city limits. Their office is at 317 S. Travis St. in Sherman. If you are buying or building in Sherman, check with the city to find out if your property is in a regulated floodplain.

Properties in the 100-year floodplain (labeled Zone A or AE on FEMA maps) face restrictions on development and may require flood insurance. Grayson County's updated flood maps took effect September 1, 2022. Use FEMA's Flood Map Service Center online to search any address for free.
