Short-Term Rental Rules Apply Inside Waco City Limits

The City of Waco regulates short-term rentals such as Airbnb-style properties within city limits; no county-level STR rules apply in unincorporated areas.

Texas counties cannot zone land or control most land uses in rural areas the way cities can. So if your property is outside any city in McLennan County, there are usually no county-level short-term rental rules.

Inside Waco city limits, the city has a short-term rental (STR) permit program. The city keeps a GIS map that shows all registered short-term rentals. If you want to rent out a home in Waco for short stays, contact the City of Waco Planning and Development Services first. Ask about current permit needs. Rules can change, so check before you list your property.
