Public Hunting Land
Somerville WMA Offers Public Hunting in Lee County
The Somerville Wildlife Management Area straddles Lee and Burleson counties and gives the public access to over 3,000 acres for hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities.
Lee County has very little publicly accessible land, but Somerville WMA is an exception. It covers about 3,180 acres split between Lee and Burleson counties in two tracts: the Yegua Creek Compartment (about 2,030 acres) and the Nails Creek Compartment (about 1,150 acres). Texas Parks and Wildlife manages it in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
To hunt here you need either the TPWD Annual Public Hunting Permit or a special permit from a TPWD drawing — check the current price and rules at tpwd.texas.gov. The area is open for white-tailed deer, dove, waterfowl, and other game in their respective seasons. Fishing and wildlife viewing are also allowed. Always confirm seasons and access rules directly with TPWD before going, as conditions and dates change each year.
