Several State Parks Are Within a Few Hours of Lubbock

The nearest major state park is Palo Duro Canyon State Park near Canyon, Texas, roughly two hours north of Lubbock. Known for its dramatic red rock canyon scenery, it offers camping, hiking, and equestrian trails. Caprock Canyons State Park and Trailway near Quitaque is another option to the northeast.

Big Spring State Park and Lake Colorado City State Park lie to the southeast. Texas state park reservations can be made through the TPWD website. Availability is limited on weekends and holidays, so book early.
