TCEQ tracks contaminated sites in Bexar County
Bexar County has TCEQ-listed contaminated sites. Buyers of commercial or industrial land should check state environmental databases before closing.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) keeps a list of contaminated sites across Texas. Bexar County has sites at different stages of investigation or cleanup. These include old industrial facilities, dry cleaners, gas stations, and other sites where soil or groundwater was contaminated.
Contamination matters most when you buy older commercial land, large lots near industrial areas, or land whose past use is unclear. It can limit how the land may be used. It also affects who must pay for cleanup. Texas law generally puts that cost on current and past owners and operators.
