Texas Tech Has Shaped the City Since 1925
Texas Tech University has been in Lubbock since 1925. It drives the city's growth, jobs, and identity.
Texas Tech University opened in 1925. It grew fast and became a key part of West Texas life. Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center came later. Together, they made Lubbock a hub for both school and medical care. The city's population grew a lot in the decades after the university opened.
Today, Texas Tech and Lubbock Christian University are both here. The university brings students from all over. Game days at Jones AT&T Stadium are a big deal in Lubbock. If you are moving here, note that the school calendar affects traffic, rent prices, and local events.
