Trinity River Bottomland Drawn Hunts Are Available but Far from Dallas
TPWD offers drawn hunts on Trinity River bottomlands, though these areas are in SE Texas (Liberty County area) — not near Dallas County — and access can be limited by flooding.
TPWD manages drawn hunt areas on Trinity River bottomland forests, but these units — part of the Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge — are located in Liberty County in Southeast Texas, roughly 200 miles from Dallas County. These areas can flood from the Trinity River and may close with little warning. Access is only through TPWD's Public Hunt Drawing program, not as walk-in hunting.
You must apply for a permit before you can hunt these areas. Permits are limited and awarded by drawing. This means you enter your name and TPWD picks winners. Apply through the TPWD Drawn Hunts catalog at tpwd.texas.gov. Watch for the application window dates each season. If you miss the window, you cannot get a permit for that year.
