Twin Buttes Reservoir Requires a Permit to Fish or Hike
Twin Buttes Reservoir west of San Angelo is on a public hunting lease — anyone 17 or older needs a permit to fish, hike, or camp there.
Twin Buttes covers about 9,080 acres on the Middle and South Concho rivers. It holds largemouth bass, white bass, catfish, crappie, and sunfish. Since September 2016, visitors age 17 and up must carry a Limited Public Use permit ($12/year) or an Annual Public Hunting permit ($48) to access the area. These permits expire August 31 each year.
All fish species at Twin Buttes fall under standard TPWD statewide regulations. The reservoir has fairly clear water with normal annual level swings of 6–8 feet. Bring a valid Texas fishing license in addition to the access permit.
