Dallas County Cars Need an Emissions Test, Not Just Safety
Under Texas's Two Steps One Sticker program, most Dallas County vehicles must pass an emissions inspection before renewing registration.
Texas combines vehicle inspection and registration into one process called Two Steps One Sticker. In Dallas County, non-commercial vehicles no longer need a separate safety inspection sticker. But they do need a passing emissions test before they can renew registration.
Dallas is one of 17 Texas counties with an emissions requirement due to air quality standards. After you pass the emissions test, you renew your registration online, by mail, or in person. Your registration sticker shows the combined status. Learn more at txdmv.gov.
